This is the second in a series of posts about spiritual principles I learned on my journey toward self-understanding. If you missed it, the first post, “How to Heal Your Life” lists the 15 principles this series is based on. This post addresses the first principle on the list.
1. Earth Is A School
I love this concept. We’re all in school together in the perfect grade that enables each of us to add to our learning. What a great leveler for those of us who see some people as better than others or who see ourselves as not quite making the grade.
I used to see myself as not quite making the grade while others were doing a much better job at life than I was. It helped me take the pressure off myself once I understood that some of us are in 5th grade while others are in college or graduate school, and everyone is where they need to be. Whew!
I’m sure you’ll agree that it makes no sense to expect a 5th-grader to do 12th-grade-level work. Each grade prepares us for upper-grade learning at a pace we can handle. I also recognized that some lessons are easier than others, just like our school system. One thing that’s not like our school system is that we can progress through our spiritual lessons/emotional issues as fast as we want to, based on our desire to learn. We don’t have to wait to be promoted – our challenges are automatically resolved with each lesson we learn.
Another thing I liked about this concept is that it has nothing to do with passing or failing. It’s about choosing. Numerology taught me that I’ve chosen certain lessons to learn this lifetime, and it occurred to me one day in a brilliant mind-flash that since I chose them, I could master them. All I needed was the desire to ease the pressure I was putting on myself and to have patience with myself as I was learning. Sounds simple, but as you know, it’s not always easy.
I hope this has inspired you to take a broader look at any challenge you may be dealing with, cut yourself some emotional slack, and know that there is nothing wrong with you. It’s a lesson you, in your infinite wisdom, decided to learn on this visit to planet earth.
Live your purpose, love your life.
